Croatia in Detail: Seeing Things Differently

Croatia often attracts visitors with its spectacular landscapes: the Adriatic Sea, islands, mountains, stone villages and sunsets. Yet it is often the small details that make a trip truly unforgettable.

An old half-open window, a cross by the roadside, a boat waiting quietly in a small harbour or a few stairs worn by time… These everyday details sometimes tell far more than a wide panorama.

With this new participatory photo series, Enjoy Croatia invites you to slow down and notice what often goes unseen. Every Wednesday, a new theme focused on a specific detail will be announced.

The idea is simple: share a photo matching the theme of the week. The photo can of course be taken in Croatia, but it may also come from anywhere else in the world. The goal is above all to capture an atmosphere, an emotion or a small moment of life.

How to participate?

Every Wednesday, a new theme will be published on the Enjoy Croatia Facebook page.

You can share your photo directly in the blog comments.

The goal is to create, week after week, a large collective gallery around the details that make places unique.

Week 1: The Cross — Wednesday, May 20, 2026

In Croatia, crosses are part of the landscape. They can be found on hilltops, along roads, inside villages, near harbours or discreetly attached to the facades of old houses.

Some overlook the Adriatic Sea from breathtaking viewpoints. Others seem almost hidden behind an olive tree, along a stone path or inside a small cemetery forgotten by time.

Whether religious, historical or simply symbolic, crosses often tell part of the local story. They reflect traditions, faith, family memories and sometimes important events connected to a region.

Photographing a cross is not only about photographing an object. It is about capturing an atmosphere: the evening light on stone, the silence of a village, the contrast between the sky and metal, or the feeling of calm experienced in certain Croatian landscapes.

For this first week, we invite you to share your best photo around the theme of the cross: monument, architectural detail, silhouette on a hill, reflection, shadow or a simple little detail discovered during a walk.

Because in Croatia, even the smallest symbols often tell a great story.

Week 2: The Window — Wednesday, May 27, 2026

The next theme will focus on windows. Colourful shutters, old windows, reflections, stone details or openings towards the sea: everyone can already start preparing their photo.
