Above Crikvenica, there is a village you could easily miss.
A few signs, a small road… and then, silence.
Kotor is not a place you discover by accident. Or rather, it doesn’t try to be discovered.
A quiet village, away from everything
Perched on the hills, Kotor looks out over the sea from a distance. From above, the view opens onto Crikvenica, the Krk bridge, and the shimmering Adriatic.
But here, nothing is designed to attract crowds. No shops, no activity, no staging.
Just a few houses, stones marked by time… and a very particular atmosphere.
Visible traces of the past
Walking through the village, you come across old walls, narrow passages, and ruins that tell the story of another time.
Some houses are still standing, others have slowly given way to nature. Stones crack, plants take over, and time continues its quiet work.
Nothing is overly restored. Nothing is frozen.
A place between memory and nature
What makes Kotor special is not a single monument. It’s the whole.
An atmosphere. A feeling.
You walk among the stones, you look out to the distance… and it almost feels like the village is still breathing.
Simply, calm
In a region where many places are busy, Kotor remains in the background.
You come here for the calm, for the view, for that suspended moment away from the noise.
And perhaps also to remember that some places do not need to be transformed to exist.
And you, do you enjoy discovering these quiet villages… or do you prefer the more famous places?
